Every year the residents of Victoria TX look forward to attending the Victoria Livestock Show at the Victoria Community Center fairgrounds. With a variety of animals, exhibits, entertainment and food, it’s the largest annual event in the Victoria area.
Now in its 72nd year, the show will be held February 23-March 5. The centerpiece of the show is of course the animals. A variety of livestock including rabbits, poultry, hogs, cattle, sheep and goats will be on display. Judging will take place throughout the event to choose the best of each breed. The animals will also be shown by exhibitors in a series of events ranging from “peewee” to “old-timers.”
There is truly something for everyone at the Victoria Livestock Show. Children can interact with animals in the petting zoo, while fair exhibits appeal to all ages. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends from February 22 to March 4.
Special events during the show provide numerous opportunities for public participation, but entrants must register in advance for most of them. These include the BBQ Cook-Off, Horseshoes & Washers Tournament, Karaoke Contest, Weiner Dog Races, Goat Roping and more. Young women can enter the Queen Victoria Pageant. Other events include an auction, Western Games and a Youth Dance.
From March 1-4, admission will be $5 per person to benefit the Victoria Livestock Show Scholarship Program. Admission will be free for ages 5 & under and 65 & over.
Beer Garden Entertainment will be provided by DJ El Rey, Joel Nava and The Border, Honkytonk Crazy Band and Legal Limit.
The Victoria Livestock Show was founded in 1946 by the Victoria Jaycees to benefit the area’s children, particularly the young 4-H and FFA members who raise livestock for the fair. Unlike nearly every other fair-based livestock sale, the Victoria livestock sale allows 4-H and FFA kids to keep the money they earn from selling their animals.
